    The Apocalypse Cometh...
First I should apologize because I haven't read anything on LJ in a couple months. Not enough time, and too much foreign travel. If there's anything I should know from reading LJ but don't, feel free to shoot me an e-mail as I still check that.

Much more importantly, I had to share this, as it literally has me sick to my stomach:

MTV Films has announced that it will be remaking the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

    Fucking apocalypse I tell you...

In other news, I am extremely busy, but otherwise doing well :)

Ah, the joys of a bi-polar boss
So as it turns out, I am not in Brazil just yet.

Five days before my trip to Brazil, which had been scheduled for months in advance, my boss has one of his bi-polar moments. He realizes that both he and another person in my department also have work to do down there, so he decides we should all be there at the same time and informs the teams in Brazil of the additional items. Naturally the freak, because it triples the work, and request that he push back his visit (and Scott's) for a few weeks. My boss, whose only real big flaw is that sometimes he will do things out of spite just to prove he is in charge, then gets overly annoyed by this demand.

So of course, two days before leaving for Brazil, he decides NONE of us are going. Why couldn't I continue with my scheduled project? because they made him mad. So now, Brazil is pushed back two weeks.

What does this mean? Well, for starters it means that I could have done all the stuff that I thought I was going to miss while in Brazil. It also means that I now have to leave Moondance, unpack the jeep, and head straight to the airport on Memorial day to catch a flight to Sao Paulo. Fantastic.

I do like my job, I really do. But sometimes my boss makes me crazy. Two days... not enough time to do much planning. Cabin trip? Cancelled. Plans with Amber? Unavailable. Group plans? Not enough time. Luckily Billy came to my rescue and we took a ride down to AL for the weekend.

Anyway, enough whining. Back to work for me, since as soon as people heard the trip was postponed they filled my calendar with useless meetings.

    Take care all!

    Back from India
So I'm finally back in Atlanta, for a few hours anyway, before heading to Jacksonville for the day.

India trip was interesting. I forgot to bring a camera so I picked up a disposable, but that means I need to get it developed before I can post any pictures. I only took about a dozen pictures anyway. Didn't have any time to sightsee on this trip, so there wasn't too much to photograph. I'll try to do an actual write-up with the pictures once they are developed and my brain returns to normal.

Many thanks to all who sent me happy birthday messages :) Timing wasn't ideal because I was in a meeting when my blackberry started going ape shit, but it's the thought that counts and it meant a lot to me.

So I'm back from South America. As I suspected, the overly sheltered people at my company completely overexagerated any dangerous nature that Sao Paulo has. It actually reminds me a lot of downtown New Orleans (pre-Katrina). Sure there are the 9th ward type areas, which are easy to avoid, but there are also the Marigny areas and mid-city areas, which can be a good time.

How to enjoy a trip to Sao Paulo )

On another note, seems like everyone is gearing up for Frolicon. Turns out I have an extra room reserved, as I tend to do early on in case we have last minute folks from our group that are in need and the hotel is sold out.

So, anyone need the extra room? I'd rather transfer it to a friend first, if not I'll post on Frolicon about it, and if still no takers I'll release it so let me know :)

    International Jew of Mystery
So in a few hours I'll be boarding a flight to Lima, Peru en route to Sao Paulo, Brazil. Could be fun, if I get to see anything other than the office there. Unfortunately Sao Paulo is apparently a fairly violent place, so they recommend you go pretty much nowhere outside of the office and the hotel. Wonder how it compares to home though, seeing as how half the same people would look at Fat City and lock their car doors.

Ah, the joys of 15 hours on a plane.

PS - I'm fairly certain my cell phone won't work down there, and I may or may not have decent internet access, so if I don't return calls and e-mails for the next week or so don't be offended.

    Updates and randomness
Chattacon is this weekend, and Amber and I will be there. Will you? We're staying at the Choo Choo, probably building 3, though they can't guarantee it. Only a 2 hour or so drive from Stone Mountain, so much better than FL.

Billy and Melissa visited this weekend while up here interviewing. Lots of fun. Found a great German restaurant (I loves me some sausage), and the world's seediest strip club! Basement of a hotel (Clermont Lounge to be exact), beer served in cans, most of the strippers appeared to have walked out of a trailer park in Camden, NJ. But one of the few cute strippers turned out to be a Frolicon regular, so all was good.

Weekend before that we got to hang out with the other Amber and a new friend. Much fun. Good Sushi, even better desserts, and great company. Could you ask for more?

Read on a friends journal that Spring4th is closing down. Bummer. We were looking forward to finally getting to go to an event there now that we're in ATL. I wonder if it's too late to try and help salvage it?

So far the move to Atlanta has been a good one. A little taxing to have a house in FL and an apartment here, but hopefully the house will sell soon and ease that burden. We still need to get together with some of our local friends, if I can ever stop having to travel, but all in all a good move.

Oh, Frolicon staff meetings and party in a couple weeks. Who's going to be there? Hopefully we can catch up with some of the Atl folks there, and start making some plans :)

Heading out for PA at the crack of dawn. Be back for New Year we think. Won't have much in the way of cell coverage or e-mail, so happy holidays to all and see you in a week.

Both as a Saints fan and an animal lover, I just had to post this....

The link goes to all their snow globes, but of course the one I'm laughing most at is "Dogfighter Michael Vick".

And good for PETA taking a shot back... lol.

    Updates from Atlanta
A preface to say that I haven't kept up with LJ or any other internet medium lately, with the move and all that. So if I missed something meant for me, please let me know.

Amber and I are finally up in ATL. Well, really we are in a ghetto-ish apartment complex in Stone Mountain, but close enough. We need to sell our house in St. Pete before we can try to get anything nicer up here, but it's okay for now. Paying a mortgage and rent is pushing the budget though, so hopefully it will sell soon.

Move went well, though it took two acts. You would think a 26 foot U-Haul and two vehicles loaded with crap would be sufficient, but I actually drove back to FL this past weekend for about 16 hours to pack up one last load and scrub down the house to get it into selling shape.

Internet is limited for me. Because of said ghetto-ish complex, we have only one working cable outlet for now, which I put a splitter on to provide cable to the living room TV and internet to Amber's PC. I need to get a wireless card for mine to get it back up, and will do that soon hopefully.

JOB ALERT! - If any of my friends are living up here and need a job, send me a resume at AGinsburg(at)gmail(dot)com. My department has a couple openings at different levels for our Norcross office. You'll need to pass the background checks and have or be working towards a degree.

So, now is the time where I reach out to all you fine folks to get some help/advice. Other than a basic understanding of the geography of the area, and the hazy recollection of always being jealous that we were so far away from year-round cool events, I have no idea where to start hanging out and whatnot.

So peeps, where's the fun here? Or for that matter, within about 6 hours of here. Any LJ, MySpace, or other groups/communities we should join to keep up on stuff?

P.S. - I'm in Birmingham Wed - Fri this week (work stuff), then on the 22nd Amber and I are headed to Pennsylvania for Xmas, but if there's anything cool between those or after the 28th, please pass it on!

    Love to all.

    DC arrival times
I've noticed a lot of peeps lately on the DC communities say they are arriving on Thursday, and leaving Monday. Currently Amber and I are set to arrive Friday sometime, earlier the better, but I don't have anything reserved for Thursday night because the Marriott reward I cashed in only covered Friday to Monday. Plus, the con doesn't officially start till Friday (at least I think)... so.....

When are each of our groups getting in and leaving, and does anyone know of official events that might make a late night arrival Thursday worthwhile?

If Amber and I drive, which is likely, we'll probably get in around 2 PM Friday and bail about that same time Monday. I'm looking into flying so we don't have to drive 8 hours, which would probably get us into the hotel at 11 AM Friday and out 6PM Monday, but I don't know yet because those damn airlines want money to hitch a ride...

Also, is there anything anyone needs me to bring if we do drive? Normally I pack the Jeep full of crap, but since I'm not throwing a party this year I don't know what anyone else needs... Farshad? Charles? anyone?

    DragonCon
Well, since I can't possibly think about actual work stuff at a time like this, I have decided instead to think about something more intersting, namely DragonCon.

Other than finding the four inch Blood Elf ears for the group costume, I've done nothing else. Apparently my procrastination is largely unaffected by an oppresive amount of lead time. So for those that are doing the WoW group costume, what are you going to be and have you started/finished your stuff yet?

We're staying at the Marriott. Yes, I know the rest of the group stays at the Hyatt, but I had lots of points built up at Marriott that helped pay for the room so beggars can't be choosers. Besides, that gives us a cocktail stop location at both hotels :)

This year, I will sign up for one of the sealed deck Magic tournaments. Haven't done one in years, and the whole debacle that was Mobicon made me miss the one that was there. Anyone else up for one?

Ah the joys of business travel. A 2 hour drive to Orlando, then a 2 hour flight to Houston, 1 hour layover, then 3.5 more hours to San Fran. $35 cab ride to your 2 hour meeting, then back to the airport for the 7 hour wait for your flight home... 5 hours to Newark, another hour layover, and 3.5 hours back to Orlando before a 2 hour drive home.

Total of 42 hours for a 2 hour meeting. Oh well, happy 4th.

Well, looks like we won't be hitting Hypericon this year. After my bizarre run in with all things electrical this week I've had to shell out a bunch of cash I didn't have to get my jeep fixed and get a new PC. Plus I have very little PTO right now, so it would be a very expensive trip for about 48 hours.

See, this is why we need to live some where closer to the rest of the world... 12 hour drive to Nashville, unacceptable.

Definitely will be at Dragon though, since it's already paid for :)

    Convention Info
So, couple quick questions for the group:

    1) Is anyone going to Hypericon? and for the local folks, are you staying at the hotel or just day tripping it?

    2) Are there any group themes for DC this year? Amber and I are definitely going, and for once we know early enough to prepare stuff.

If you value your electronics, keep them away
So, I don't know what electronics gods I pissed off, but I'm thinking maybe they didn't like me returning the stereo I bought for our room at MobiCon. I returend it because it wasn't loud enough, but since then:

I have lost my phone charger: Supposedly the hotel is sending it, but when?
My home computer has died: Just as we found a WoW server with lots of friends on it.
The computer in my jeep is going haywire: had to drop it off for service this morning to run diagnostics.
The DVR is locking up: Works fine when amber has the remote... wtf.

Not being able to distract myself from reality with mindless WoW or some other computer generated uselessness did remind me of a sad realization. I am not very happy in Florida.

Yes, the weather is beautiful 95% of the time. yes, we are only a ten minute drive from a nice beach. But the reality is that almost everything we enjoy doing involves friends, usually a sizeable amount. And the one thing that is missing in FL? Most of our friends. Yes, we have a few down here, and on very rare occasion we actually get together, but it isn't the same.

Maybe it's because I spent so long in New Orleans, where I knew probably half the city (even though it wasn't always in a good way). Maybe I'm too old to go out and make whole new groups of friends. Maybe FL is just filled with old and/or intolerant people and there are no new circles to make.

We've been debating moving to a couple of places. We have a large contingent of good friends in the Nashville area of TN. We have another group down in MS. And of course I still have many friends back home in N.O. None of those is a location where I could easily move and keep my current job, which I do like and would have trouble replacing I think. One place closer to the world is Norcross, GA, which we do have a corporate office in and I might be able to keep my position in. There's always stuff going on in Atlanta, and all the other concentrations of friends are much closer that way.

I think it's about time I start seriously looking for a position in one of those areas, especially the Nashville area. In fact, if the firewalls at work didn't block job search engines, I'd probably be looking right now.

Anybody want to buy a small house in FL?

    Cell phone dead
Just a quick note to let folks know, my cell phone battery is dead.

I left my charger in the hotel this weekend, they are sending it but probably not till after the holiday.

So, unless I find Amber's old charger (she used to have the same model) or go buy a new charger or phone, my cell might be dead till next week some time.

E-mail me if you need me, or call Amber if you have her number.

    MobiCon and other convention stuff
Well, I'm sure everyone has a good idea of the bad things that happened at MobiCon. If not, hit up Amber P's, Stephen's, Tamara's, Farshad's, or Tracie's journals as they all cover it pretty well.
